Hyderabad: Proving that age is just a number, a senior citizen from Malkajgiri has cycled from Safilguda to Charminar on Sunday in a span of three hours. Pande, who is 75-plus, had lost his wife a few months ago and wanted to keep himself engaged in any way possible and took to cycling with a renewed zeal. He has been participating in major cycling events happening across the city and has even participated in the Freedom Ride that happened on August 15 this year.
The retired railway employee started from Safilguda Park and reached Charminar in one hour and while returning back he came via Necklace Road which took him two hours to cover. “Overall it took me three hours to cover the 40 km stretch and I feel even more energetic after successfully completing this ride. My main message through this ride is to educate youngsters about climate change and inspire them to take up cycling in order to reduce carbon emission,” says Pande.
On his daily routine, the young at heart retired railway engineer reveals that he spends about 40 minutes cycling and walks for 6-7 kms everyday even though he has had two knee replacement surgery a few years ago. He also spends the rest of the day teaching poor students of classes 7-10. “My wife used to teach these students while I was working in railways and post my retirement we started taking tuitions together. I am just continuing her legacy,” he informs.
