Hyderabad turns pink as Breast Cancer Awareness month begins

Hyderabad's prominent landmarks were illuminated in pink on Wednesday evening to mark the beginning of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hyderabad: The city literally turned pink on Wednesday evening as prominent landmarks across the city including Lok Bhavan, the Charminar, Buddha Statue at Tank Bund, Arts College, the Osmania University campus, Prasads IMAX, T Hub, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and KIMS Hospitals were illuminated in pink to mark the beginning of International Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

For the 18th consecutive year, the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) has used the distinctive pink illumination of landmarks to draw public attention to breast health, breast cancer awareness and, most importantly, early detection.

Hyderabad is the only city in the world where so many iconic monuments and prominent buildings turn pink on the same night, every year for 18 consecutive years, Dr. P. Raghu Ram, Founder and Chairman of the Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBCF) said.

He said the pink colour is a reminder to every woman to be aware of her breast health, recognise changes early and seek timely medical advice. The programme is being organised under the theme ‘Paint the City Pink’.
