Hyderabad: A manhole in Punjagutta IAS Officers’ Colony has been continuously overflowing for the past 10 days, resulting in severe odours in the area.

This IAS Officers’ Colony is just a stone’s throw from the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka at Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan. The overflow of sewage water onto the main road has caused inconvenience to road users.

In another instance in the Borabanda area, sewage water has been overflowing in the residential area of NRR Puram in Borabanda for the past two weeks, according to locals. The overflowing sewage resembled a small stream and was aggravated by heavy rainfall.

At Kalyan Nagar near ESI Metro Station, a manhole in a residential area is overflowing and emitting a foul stench, causing inconvenience to school children. In Jubilee Hills, near the TDP office opposite KBR Park, sewage water is overflowing up to one kilometre, and commuters complain about the unbearable stench.

Different parts of the city have been experiencing sewerage overflow incidents for the last several days, with the citizens raising complaints with the HMWSSB’s metro customer care (MCC) and urging them to get rid of the stench.

Sources of the HMWSSB told ‘Telangana Today’ that complaints about sewage overflowing to the Metro Customer Care (MCC) have increased over the past few days. “On average, between 800 and 1,000 complaints were received daily. These complaints accumulated due to incessant rains that could not be resolved. Now that the rains have stopped, the MCC is attending to the complaints.”
