Hyderabad: AIMIM faces fresh controversy as opponents circulate unverified allegations against legislator

AIMIM is facing a fresh controversy after opponents circulated social media posts alleging misconduct involving another party legislator in Bihar. The allegations have not been independently verified, while critics have demanded an inquiry and threatened to release a purported video.

Hyderabad: The controversy surrounding the expulsion of AIMIM MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig has been followed by a fresh controversy involving another legislator, with the party’s opponents circulating social media posts alleging that the legislator was involved in an “immoral” act with a woman in Bihar.

Baig was expelled from the AIMIM about a month ago and was asked by the party to resign from his MLC post. However, he has so far not submitted his resignation despite the party’s direction.

The action against Baig followed the circulation of a video on social media, which was claimed to show him engaged in a wrongdoing. After reports about the alleged video went viral, Baig appeared in a video and denied any wrongdoing.

No video establishing that Baig was involved in the alleged act has, however, come into the public domain so far. The episode has nevertheless been used by opponents of the AIMIM to target the party leadership over the conduct of its legislators.

The latest controversy centers on another legislator of the party. Social media platforms have been abuzz with videos and posts by AIMIM opponents alleging that the legislator was involved in an immoral act with a woman while in Bihar.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and no video establishing the alleged act has been made public so far.

The posts circulating on social media have called upon the AIMIM leadership to take action against the legislator and demanded that the party conduct an inquiry into the allegations. Some of the party’s critics have also threatened to make public a purported video of the legislator if the AIMIM does not take action.

The fresh campaign has provided AIMIM’s opponents another opportunity to question the conduct of its elected representatives. The allegations against the legislator, however, remain unverified pending the emergence of authenticated material or findings from an inquiry.
