Hyderabad: The 21-kg Balapur Ganesh laddu is all set to be auctioned in Balapur here on Sunday.
While those who had successfully bid for the laddu in the earlier auctions are eligible to take part again, four new persons enrolled themselves till the last count on Saturday. After early morning prayers followed by a procession in the local residential areas, the laddu will be auctioned at 9 am.
The history of auctioning of the Balapur Ganesh laddu dates back to 1994, when it was successfully bid by a Balapur resident, Kolan Mohan Reddy for Rs.450. Since then, the tradition of auctioning the laddu has continued. Bidders believe that successfully bidding for the laddu will bring them health, wealth and prosperity.
The last auction was held in 2019 where a Balapur local Kolan Ram Reddy successfully bid the laddu for a staggering Rs.17.60 lakh. Last year, the Balapur Ganesh Utsav Samithi had not auctioned the laddu due to the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and presented it to the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
