Hyderabad: Apollo Hospitals Jubilee Hills on Friday announced completion of over 1,000 robotic surgeries for benign Gynaecological conditions by Senior Gynaecology and Robotic Surgeon, Dr. Rooma Sinha, making her country’s highest-volume single surgeon in this field, according to a press release here on Friday.

In addition to achieving a personal milestone, Dr. Sinha’s achievement also represents the development of minimally invasive, fertility-preserving care for women in India,” said Dr. Sangita Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rooma Sinha said “In India, fibroids affect an estimated 25 to 50 percent of reproductive-age women, while up to 10 percent suffer from endometriosis, conditions that often lead to infertility, chronic pelvic pain, and repeated surgeries”.

Traditional open surgeries pose significant risks, including longer recovery times and reduced fertility outcomes. To address these challenges, I adopted and advanced robotic surgery in gynaecologic care.

Robotic surgery offers benefits in cases of advanced endometriosis, large or multiple fibroids, previous multiple surgeries and obesity situations where traditional surgery carries higher risks, Dr Sinha said.
