Hyderabad: An alert auto-rickshaw driver foiled the attempt of a man to misbehave with a minor girl at Abid Road while her parents were asleep on Tuesday night.
The driver, Syed Zahid, a resident of the old city, was sitting in his auto around 2 am when he saw the accused, aged around 50 years, misbehaving with a six-year-old child. He immediately raised an alarm and alerted the child’s mother and a relative, who immediately caught hold of the man. Meanwhile, a patrol party of the Abid Road police reached the spot and apprehended the suspect.
On verification, the police found that he was a noted criminal, Mohd Choto (52), involved in 16 cases and with a suspect sheet maintained against him at Afzalgunj police station.
“The victim had come to the Nampally Dargah area from Miyapur along with her mother and as it was night, the family was asleep on the pavement. On noticing the girl, the suspect went near her and started misbehaving with her, which was when Zahid noticed him,” DCP (Central) P Vishwa Prasad said.
Speaking to Telangana Today, the auto driver said he was sitting in his auto-rickshaw when he noticed the man going near the girl. “When he started misbehaving, I rushed there and alerted the parents. Together, we caught hold of the accused and the police came,” he said.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar appreciated Zahid for his prompt action and presented him with a memento. A cash reward was also given to him. The police who also acted promptly were honoured with a memento.
