Hyderabad: A full fledge call centre with 63 employees from where citizens of United States were being cheated was busted by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) following a raid at a building at Madhapur on Wednesday evening.
According to Shikha Goel, Director TGCSB the prime suspects Kaivan Patel Rupesh Kumar alias Jaddhu of Gujarat was operating the racket with the help of his brother Vickey, who stays in Dubai and another person Azad.
The call centre was set up a few months ago and the tele callers tricked the US citizens and NRIs into transferring huge sums of money into a few bank accounts. The prime suspect Chanda Manasvini (36) started a company Exito Solutions, and took a floor on rent at a building in Madhapur. They recruited around 60 people including nearly 40 from North Eastern States and offered a salary of Rs. 30,000 a month to them. Transportation and accommodation was also provided to the employees by the company.
“The tele-callers introduced themselves as tele-callers from Paypal call centre and informed the customers mainly US citizens that they were some unauthorized transactions made through their accounts. The people were then tricked into sharing sensitive information and it was used to transfer money from their accounts,” Shikha Goel, Director TGCSB.
The tele callers were given a target of duping at least 10 persons each day. “On average around 600 people were targeted by the tele callers and amount running into thousands of dollars was siphoned from their accounts and transfered into mule accounts,” said the official.
The money was then converted into crypto currency and transferred to some other crypto wallets. “We can more know more about the network only after Rupesh Kumar is caught. Our teams are on the job,” Shikha Goel.
The police said that some persons had provided the data of Paypal customers to Chanda Mansavini and using the details the tele callers targeted the people. “All the tele-callers are fluent in English and were trained in tricking the people into transferring their money. They were aware that what they are doing is illegal,” said the official.
During the raid the police sized 52 laptops, 63 mobile phones and 27 identity cards of the employees.
The TGCSB said that the employees working in any company come across any illegal activities at their work place they should report it on 1930 else they will land in legal problems if any case is registered against the company.
