Hyderabad: Demanding the Congress government extend 42 percent reservations to BCs legally and ensure the reservations Bill is presented in Parliament, the community organisations staged a protest at Dharna Chowk here on Sunday.
Members from the BC organisations slammed the State and Central governments for failing to protect the rights of the community. The reservations provided in the gram panchayat elections were said to reflect the commitment of the government, they said.
They also demanded that 42 percent reservations be extended to the community and legal sanctity be ensured to these reservations.
Addressing the protestors, former Minister V Srinivas Goud said severe injustice is being meted out to the BCs. The Congress in its manifesto had promised to extend 42 percent reservations to the community.
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also assured to offer reservations as per the community’s population. Yet, injustice is being done to the BCs and the Congress has deceived the community, he said.
“BCs constitute 80 percent of the population but they are offered 20 percent reservations. Contrastingly, the communities that constitute 20 percent of the population get 80 percent reservations,” Srinivas Goud said, stressing that due to this decision 3,000 BC leaders have been deprived of the opportunity to get elected as Sarpanches.
BC JAC Chairman Jajula Srinivas Goud, Legislative Council Opposition Leader V Madhusudhana Chary and others also spoke.
