Hyderabad: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Indian Army signed a contract worth Rs 471.41 Crore for Refurbishment of IGLA – 1M missiles, on Wednesday in New Delhi. The refurbishment will increase the life of the missiles by 10 years.
In addition to the refurbishment, BDL will also deal with manufacturing and supplying of guided missiles and associated equipment, underwater weapon systems, airborne weapon systems, ground support equipment and product life cycle support. BDL has built-up its in-house research and development capabilities primarily focussing on design and engineering activities. It is leveraging emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop futuristic weapons for the armed forces.
BDL has also taken up several initiatives to be a part of the global supply chain by entering into MoUs/agreements with foreign original equipment manufacturers. As part of its expansion plan, the company is setting up a new unit at Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, Defence Corridor, which will be its sixth manufacturing unit.
