Police said Radha , a beggar sold her baby for Rs 3,000 to a woman named Shanthi on Thursday
Hyderabad: A seven-day-old baby girl was allegedly sold for Rs 3,000 by her mother, who is a beggar at Quthbullapur in Bachupally here on Thursday. The incident came to light after a dispute over money arose between her and the buyer on Friday.
According to the Bachupally police, Radha, a beggar and ragpicker, has recently given birth to a girl child, but due to financial constraints and her expenses shooting up after the baby was born, decided to sell the infant.
Police said Radha sold the baby for Rs 3,000 to a woman named Shanthi on Thursday. However, Radha started demanding more money from Shanthi, who then approached the Child Welfare Department officials and informed them about the incident.
Based on a complaint from the Child Welfare officials, the Bachupally police booked a case and took up an investigation. The rescued child was handed over to Shishu Vihar.
