Hyderabad: Hyderabad-born screenwriter Shreyas Ayaluri has won the Audience Choice Award at the UCLA Film Festival for his absurdist short film, ‘The Serene Place’ (formerly titled ‘The Serene Place Where The Stars Poop’).
Written by Shreyas and drirected by Shriya Rana, the short film presents a comical narrative centered on a film school graduate who must navigate a bizarre, bureaucratic maze—mirroring the reality of the entertainment industry.
The story follows two characters: the dreamer and the gatekeeper. The dreamer is a fresh grad—an eager immigrant, ready to do anything to break into the Hollywood studio world. The gatekeeper is a seasoned veteran who has been worn down by the system and thoroughly consumed by it, becoming one of its enforcers.
With more than 30 acclaimed screenplays to his name Shreyas Ayaluri’s storytelling has earned him a place in the spotlight. His other standout works include ‘A Mother’s Battle’, ‘Eclipsed Innocence’, and “Cupid’s Curse”.
The young screenwriter is currently working on several new projects, like ‘Casbah’, a supernatural family horror film. The project is still in the developing phase, with producers on board and a director expected to be announced soon.
