Hyderabad lad Shreyas Ayaluri is making the city proud with his accomplishments in the Hollywood industry. The avant-garde writer who received immense laurels for his works ‘Amuse Me’ and ‘Suburbia’ is now set to make noise with his upcoming ‘Elivis Escobar’ and ‘Juniper Lea’. Within a month of the script’s completion, it is already a jury favourite at film festivals, Shreyas shares.
Like most of the young boys in the city, Shreyas Ayaluri also went the engineering way to find some answers to some quests. However, soon after completing his Mechanical Engineering from Symbiosis College of Engineering in Pune, Shreyas found it to be claustrophobic to continue in the field of engineering and thought of breaking the barriers with his creative words.
With the guidance of his loved ones, Shreyas took a sharp career turn and landed a job in an advertising firm in the city. Having recognised his beat, Shreyas went to pursue a screenwriting programme at New York Films Academy (NYFA) and later did an advanced screenwriting course at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
“In the past couple of years, I wrote four features, two pilots, and multiple shorts. In 2019, my first screenplay, ‘Amuse Me’, fetched me an award for best screenplay. Since then, most of my work has gotten placed in many top-tier film festivals, including the likes of Austin Film Festival, The Script Lab, Film Empire and StoryPros Awards. I also finished a song for Broadway,” Shreyas shares with pride.
Rave reviews, nominations and placements have all just added to the 27-year-old screenwriter’s motivation. One reviewer declared Shreyas’s works to be “Utterly wacky, and refreshingly original with a great market potential”.
Sharing his writing experience, Shreyas mentions: “Writing is almost like a ritual. And every story of mine usually sprouts from a memory, someone I met or bumped into, a thought or silly idea. And then I try to pull myself away from what I know and write objectively with much forethought and details.”
Shreyas has helmed both positions, that of a writer and a producer, marvellously. The film he recently produced also won the ‘Best Short – Audience Choice’ at the esteemed UCLA Film Festival.
Talk about his future projects, Shreyas, who is popular for his scripts in the comedy genre, shares, “I have quite a few projects lined up, mainly features. A sci-fi comedy, and a crime comedy. I’m also collaborating with a bunch of extremely passionate filmmakers this year from both Los Angeles and India. And then, I’ve my passion project, a TV show that I’ve been ideating and mulling over for a couple of years – ‘Aloha Nights!’.”
