Hyderabad: A seven-year-old boy died after he slipped and fell into an open nala at Anand Nagar in New Bowenpally here on Saturday.
According to the police, the victim, Anand Sai, was playing near the nala where renovation work was on and fell into it. “Due to the high flow of water through the nala, Anand Sai was washed away before the local residents could reach there. They tried to rescue him but he went missing,” said an official.
After a search operation that went on for over two hours, the Bowenpally police, along with fire officials, retrieved the body a few metres away from the spot where the child fell into the nala. The Bowenpally police booked a case.
Local residents alleged that the accident occurred due to the negligence of GHMC authorities. They alleged that the nala did not have a proper protective wall and that their representations for the same had gone unheard.
