Hyderabad: Family members of a 36-year-old farmer from Yadadri Bhongir, Nalla Paramesh, who was declared as brain dead, have donated his organs to needy patients as part of the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
A resident of Anjipur village, Paramesh, sustained a serious head injury after an accident on November 3. He was rushed to Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet, by his relatives, where the doctors had put Paramesh under critical care and provided intensive care for nine days. However, his medical condition worsened, forcing the neuro-physicians’ team to declare him as brain dead due to a Road Traffic Accident (RTA) with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) on November 12.
The Jeevandan volunteers and counsellors from the hospital grief-counselled the father and wife of the deceased, following which they consented to donate Paramesh’s organs. The hospital surgeons retrieved both the kidneys, liver, heart and both corneas based on the organ donation guidelines of Jeevandan.
