Hyderabad: A businessman from the city was allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 3.10 crore by a group of unidentified individuals who promised to develop a mobile application for his business, but failed to deliver the project despite receiving the money.

According to the complaint, the fraudsters had convinced him that they had the expertise to build a customised mobile application and sought funds in multiple installments for its development. Trusting their assurances, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 3.10 crore over a period of time.

However, the promised application was never completed or handed over in time. “When the complainant demanded either the finished product or a refund, they stopped responding, leading him to suspect that he had been defrauded,” police said.

Based on the complaint, the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police booked a case and are investigating. They are examining the financial transactions, agreements, and other documentary evidence to establish the sequence of events and identify the role of the suspects.
