Hyderabad: The Task Force and Moghalpura police have arrested a cab driver for allegedly creating fake allotment orders under the State government’s Double Bedroom (2BHK) Dignity Housing Scheme and cheating dozens of people by promising them houses.

Officials seized 52 fake allotment order copies and a mobile phone from the suspect, Syed Salman (27), a resident of Salala in Barkas, Chandrayangutta. He was arrested after police uncovered his alleged involvement in preparing forged allotment documents.

According to police, Salman allegedly exploited his previous experience working at MeeSeva centres to create forged government documents. Officials said he falsely claimed to have close contacts in the Collector’s Office and assured people that he could secure 2BHK housing allotments in return for money.

Police said one of the victims, Asma Sultana, who knew Salman through a school where they had worked, along with her family members, allegedly paid him Rs 1.5 lakh in instalments, believing his promises. Salman also collected Aadhaar card copies and passport-size photographs from the victims on the pretext of processing their applications before handing over forged allotment orders.

Police believe the suspect used the same method to cheat more than 50 people, collecting several lakhs of rupees, which were allegedly spent on personal expenses.

Further investigation is on to identify additional victims and determine the full extent of the fraud.
