Hyderabad: The 73rd Republic Day of India was celebrated with great enthusiasm and pomp across the city on Wednesday. The heads of various civil boards and organisations hoisted the national tricolor at their respective office, while following the COVID guidelines.

The South Central Railway (SCR) celebrated the R-Day at Railway Sports Complex Grounds, Secunderabad. General Manager, Sanjeev Kishore unfurled the National Flag and received the guard of honour presented by the contingents of Railway Protection Force (RPF). The dog squad of the RPF also took part in the parade.

Commissioner Lokesh Kumar unveiled the national flag at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation headquarters. City Mayor, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, GHMC officials and staff attended the event. The Deputy Mayor of GHMC, Mothe Sri Latha Reddy, unfurled the National Flag at the camp office in Tarnaka division.

Several other organisations in the city, including TSTRANSCO, TSRTC, Information Civil Relations Commissionerate, Telangana State Industrial Development Corporation, Water Board Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) and NMDC also celebrated the national festival.

Educational institutions — such as University of Hyderabad, Osmania University, several schools and colleges — in the city also celebrated the Republic Day, under strict COVID-19 precautions.

The residential societies also organised small events on the occasion, paying tributes to the freedom fighters who brought independence and prepared the Constitution that guides us to function as a secular, democratic and republic nation.
