Hyderabad: Devotion and awe, along with chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya rent the air early on Sunday as the immersion procession of the Khairatabad Ganesh, standing tall at 40 feet this year, began its journey towards Hussain Sagar.
Devotees in traditional attire watched as artistes with Bonam on their head danced in front of the mammoth idol, which is slated to be immersed in the lake from NTR Marg. The immersion is likely to conclude by 2 pm, according to members of the Sri Ganesh Utsav Committee, Khairatabad.
“To make sure the immersion is held on time, the idol was moved at midnight and the welding works continued overnight. The idol immersion will be completed before 2 pm,” said Raj Kumar, organiser.
The crane that will immerse the idol is kept ready and elaborate arrangements have been made by the State government to make sure the procession and the immersion are completed without hassles.
Immersion of other idols has already started in the Hussain Sagar, with devotees heading to vantage points along the lakeside to have a glimpse of the processions. Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi also inspected the arrangements at Hussain Sagar.
