Hyderabad: The Sultan Bazaar police have detained chemical engineer Paruchuri Mallik and are questioning him in regard to a case filed against him last month for his statements about the third wave of Covid-19.

The police had booked a case following a complaint from Dr. G Srinivas Rao, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, stating that Mallik, during a television show, said there was a possibility of deaths during the third wave of Covid-19 in the State and that every house would report deaths.

Dr. Rao said the comments by Mallik were highly objectionable in terms of medical ethics and would create panic in the general public. “No institution/individual (globally even) had any experience/scientific prediction regarding the impending third wave, its effect on families or children,” the complaint stated.

The Sultan Bazaar police had booked a case against him and served notices asking him to appear before the police.
