Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police along with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized Pseudoephedrine, a controlled substance under the NDPS Act 1985, from an international courier agency office at Begumpet. The value of the seized contraband was around Rs. 5.5 crore.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the drug was being smuggled from the city to Australia in two parcels and was seized based on specific information.
“The drug was packed in plastic covers and kept in between two layers of photo frames to avoid detection. During examination, officials found 22 photo frames in all and a total of 14.2 kilogram of Pseudoephedrine was retrieved. The samples tested positive,” the Commissioner said, adding that preliminary investigations revealed that the consignments were booked using fraudulent Aadhar cards with Hyderabad addresses by two persons. It was possibly booked from Tamil Nadu, Anjani Kumar said.
The DRI has booked 15 cases and seized over 300 kilograms of Ephedrine and Pseudoephedrine consignments destined to Australia by courier, air and sea cargo in the last one year from various locations in Chennai, Delhi and Bengaluru, officials said.
