Hyderabad: A local court here on Thursday allowed five days of police custody of Chukwu Ogbonna David alias Tony, who was arrested last week in connection with the recently busted international drug racket.
The Hyderabad police had earlier filed a petition seeking one week’s custody of Tony saying more information regarding the drug racket was to be extracted from him. The court, which heard the arguments from both prosecution and defense on the custody petition filed by the police, pronounced its verdict.
“We hope to gather more information about the drug network, buyers and sellers from him. He was sending his agents to supply drugs in the city and we can obtain the names of his customers from him,” said an official associated with the investigation.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Tony was procuring psychotropic substances in bulk quantities from another Nigerian named ‘Star Boy’ whose real name and whereabouts remain a secret. The Punjagutta police, who are investigating the case, hope Tony’s custody will answer a lot of questions.
Tony erased data on WhatsApp.
City Police Commissioner CV Anand said that the mobile phone of Tony was scanned but he had erased all information on WhatsApp. However, the WhatsApp messages could be retrieved from the phone of Tony’s prime agent Imran. The mobile phones which were seized from the suspects were verified and the gadgets were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for retrieval of data.
Tony, along with nine of his customers, including seven businessmen from the city were arrested in connection with the drug case. Meanwhile, four persons suspected to be regular customers of Tony are still absconding and efforts are on to nab them.
