Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police have intensified the crackdown on ganja peddlers and those selling banned tobacco products and booked over 80 cases in the last three days.
City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the police were regularly taking up enforcement drives against those involved in ganja and tobacco product sales. “Special drives will continue for a few more days until we put an end to the menace. We are committed to eradicate the sale of ganja in the city and are coordinating with other government departments as well,” he said.
In the last three days, around 100 persons were arrested and cases were booked against them under sections of the IPC, NPDS Act and COTPA Act.
“So far, we invoked PD Act against 13 persons who were involved in drug related offences. Another 23 persons were identified and PD Act proceedings will be initiated against them,” the Commissioner said.
“Based on specific inputs, those selling the contraband are being nabbed and cases booked against them. A strict vigil is maintained on the entry points of the city to stop smuggling of the ganja and other drugs,” he said, warning those involved in dealing with drugs to mend their ways.
