Hyderabad: Hyderabad traffic police on Sunday continued their crackdown against tinted glasses on vehicles and faulty number plates in the city and booked cases against persons who were found to have tampered with the registration number plates.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hyderabad, AV Ranganath said in case of false number plates and deletion of digits/letters, the vehicles were being seized. “Traffic officials will verify the registration number on the vehicle number plate with the documents. Criminal cases will be booked against those tampering the registration number of the vehicle and plying it on the road,” he said.

Ranganath said improper and faulty number plates on vehicles have several security and law & order implications and wrong number plates could mislead the law enforcement agencies in detection or investigation of any offence.

The traffic police maintained that even displaying writings like ‘Police, Government vehicle, Press, Corporator, Army, MLA and MP’ will also attract cases. “All the above are violations of Sections 50, 51 and 52 of the Motor Vehicle Rules,” the official said.

With regard to the tinted glasses, the Joint Commissioner of Police said it was observed that people were taking out their vehicle at odd hours especially during the nights to avoid getting caught. “Traffic checking will be also conducted during the night time to nab such persons. A challan of up to Rs 1,000 will be imposed on those violating the MV Act,” he said.

He further said a meeting with the car decors and accessory shop owners was held and they were told that action would be initiated against them where needed. He clarified that it is illegal to use any material including sun shades and curtains that prevent clear visibility inside the car.
