Hyderabad: What began as a complaint of domestic harassment has led authorities to uncover an alleged child marriage involving a 15-year-old girl in Banjara Hills.
Police have now booked a case against her husband, parents as well as others who allegedly facilitated the illegal wedding.
According to the police, the girl from Ramanthapur was married to M Rajesh (28), a resident of Udayanagar in Banjara Hills, in May. Within a month of the wedding, Rajesh allegedly subjected her to physical and mental harassment, while his family members reportedly abused her.
About a month ago, Rajesh allegedly left the girl at her parents’ house. However, he continued to call the minor, verbally abuse her as well as threaten her parents.
When the girl’s mother approached Uppal Police Station, officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department conducted an inquiry. The investigation confirmed that the girl was a minor at the time of the marriage.
Based on the findings, the department lodged a complaint against Rajesh, the girl’s parents as well as other family members accused of facilitating the child marriage.
A case was booked and subsequently transferred to Banjara Hills Police Station for further investigation.
