Hyderabad: Following a petition from a journalist of a vernacular news channel, a local court on Friday has directed the city police to book a case against astrologer Venu Swamy and conduct a thorough investigation.

The legal action stems from a complaint filed by the journalist, who accused Venu Swamy of defrauding numerous individuals under the guise of astrology.

During a recent hearing before the court, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the journalist had been targeted and his life threatened for exposing the astrologer’s alleged activities.

The lawyer highlighted Venu Swamy’s alleged misuse of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s image to deceive innocent people including common people, celebrities, politicians and film actors.

After examining the petition, the court ordered the Jubilee Hills police to book a case and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
