Hyderabad: Medicover Hospitals in collaboration with Prajwala on Friday organized an exclusive free Covid vaccination drive for members of the transgender community and individuals who were rescued from trafficking. Around 200 individuals from the LGBT community and persons who were rescued by Prajwala were vaccinated by Medicover Hospitals as part of its CSR activity.
The hospital said the special vaccination drive was conducted in a safe environment by strictly following Covid appropriate behavior and protocols. The drive was also aimed to motivate people to organize similar drives in the future.
“While conducting Covid vaccination drive for everybody, we thought of including the most excluded sections of the society. Keeping that in mind, we decided to organise a free vaccination drive for them, as a significant number of transgenders who are socially ostracised are also economically disadvantaged,” Dr Anil Krishna, Chairman, Medicover Group, said.
Founder of Prajwala, Sunitha Krishnan said, “The transgender community is marginalized both through stigma and prejudices which creates challenges for them to access the health system. Misinformation spread through social media has created unnecessary fears among the community members. This drive will perhaps inspire more transgender persons to come forward and vaccinate themselves.”
