Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Saturday cautioned the public against fraudulent lucky draw schemes being promoted by some social media influencers.
Taking to social media, he said certain influencers were luring people with promises of cars, bikes, plots and expensive gadgets, using flashy reels to mask financial fraud.
With promotions of betting apps coming under scrutiny, these individuals have resurfaced with new tactics in the name of lucky draws, exploiting the hopes of unsuspecting citizens, the commissioner said.
He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those involved, irrespective of their celebrity status or social media popularity.
Cases will be registered under the Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978 against offenders, Sajjanar said, adding that no one would be spared if found cheating the public under the guise of online promotions.
