Hyderabad: A senior CPI leader Chandu Nayak (43) was shot dead by four unidentified persons while on a morning walk at Shalivahana Nagar Park in Malakpet on Tuesday morning.
Chandu, a native of Narsaipalli in Balmoor mandal of Nagarkurnool district, was staying in the Malakpet area and had come to the park for a walk, as usual, when he was shot and killed.
According to police, Chandu was walking in the park reportedly along with his wife and daughter around 7.30 am, when four persons arrived in a Swift Dzire car. The assailants parked the car a little away from the park and walked towards Chandu.
“The four men sprinkled chilli powder on him. As he attempted to flee from the place, they fired five rounds at him with a country-made pistol. He suffered bullet injuries, collapsed on the ground, and died on the spot,” said DCP (South East) S Chaitanya Kumar. Three bullets pierced into his body.
A forensic team reached the site and collected evidence, including five bullet shells. Ten special teams were formed to trace and nab the suspects.
The four men were later taken into custody after being identified with the help of the car they had used. A local person had taken a video of the car when the assailants were fleeing from the spot.
According to sources, there were disputes between one Rajesh and Chandu over a land parcel of 100 acres located at Kuntloor village in Ranga Reddy district. Rajesh is affiliated with the CPI (ML) party and a native of Devaruppala.
