Hyderabad: The Rachakonda commissionerate on Monday reported a 4 percent increase in the overall crime rate in 2024, with 33, 084 cases, including cyber crimes, getting reported.

Compared to last year, there was an 11 percent increase in murders, a 10 percent increase in kidnaps, and a 17 percent increase in rape cases. However, crime against women decreased by 9 per cent this year, said Rachakonda Police Commissioner, G.Sudheer Babu, while presenting the annual report on Monday.

The Commissioner attributed implementation of a three-pronged ‘VQT’ strategy for achieving better results this year. “This year, our focus was on Visible Policing, Quick Response and Technology integration to combat rising crimes, particularly those affecting women and victims across other sections of the society,” Sudheer Babu said.

While the total caseload for this year was 33,084 cases, the Rachakonda police had a resolution rate of 76 per cent, which is highest in the state, Sudheer Babu said. For the sixth consecutive year, the Rachakonda police had the highest conviction rate of 64 per cent in major crimes. Effective surveillance over bad characters and crime hotspots resulted in a 10 per cent reduction in reporting of property crime, he added.

When compared to last year, cases of Cybercrime under Rachakonda increased by 42.5 per cent this year. A total of 53 foreigners were arrested in cybercrime cases and an amount of Rs 23.12 crore was frozen in bank accounts while a total of Rs 21.94 crore was refunded to victims who lost their money to cybercrime.

During 2024, a total of 183 NDPS cases registered through Special Operation teams and 130 offenders were arrested.
