Hyderabad: Customs official, cop in CBI net for graft
Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Hyderabad Customs Commissionerate Superintendent G Ch S Suresh Kumar and Inspector Krishan Pal in connection with a bribe case.
The CBI booked a case against Kumar and Pal along with a havaldar following a complaint alleging that they had demanded bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant for not cancelling his bail order and for not arresting him, according to a press release.
The bribe was later reduced to Rs 10,000. It was further alleged that the complainant was earlier arrested in a customs case of gold smuggling and later got bail with a condition that he would appear at customs office on every second and fourth Monday to sign in a register.
The CBI laid a trap and caught them while allegedly demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. Searches were also conducted at four places, including Hyderabad and residential premises of the arrested persons, leading to recovery of certain documents.
The arrested persons were produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Hyderabad, after which they were remanded to judicial custody.
