Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters dupe 53-year-old woman of Rs 2.29 lakh

The victim, a 53-year-old woman, received a phone call from a person who claimed to be an executive working with Union Bank of India (UBI), and offered to update her credit card and increase the limit to Rs. 5 lakh.

Hyderabad: A woman was duped of Rs. 2.29 lakh by scammers on the pretext of issuing a new credit card. The victim, a 53-year-old woman, received a phone call from a person who claimed to be an executive working with Union Bank of India (UBI), and offered to update her credit card and increase the limit to Rs. 5 lakh.

The woman shared the details as sought by the scammer through Whatsapp. The fraudster collected the photographs of the credit card and One Time Password (OTP) and assured to process the work soon.


The victim later received another call from a person, who claimed that he was customer care executive from UBI. The person informed her that a virtual credit card was issued on her name and a bill of Rs. 2, 29,180 was generated. On verification, she found out that second call was indeed made by the call centre of the bank.

Realizing, that she was duped by fraudsters, the victim approached the police who registered a case and stared investigation.
