Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrest 49 in nationwide crackdown
Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested 49 people from 15 states in connection with 25 cybercrime cases during July and facilitated refunds of Rs 98.89 lakh. Trading fraud caused the highest losses, while cyber patrol teams also removed 128 fraudulent social media profiles.
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police arrested 49 people from 15 states during nationwide operations in July in connection with 25 cybercrime cases. During the same period, they facilitated refunds of Rs 98.89 lakh to victims.
According to the Cybercrime Police, 70 FIRs were registered during the month based on complaints received through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). Most of the arrests were linked to trading fraud (29), followed by social media fraud (5), digital arrest scams (3), WhatsApp display picture fraud (3), matrimonial fraud (2), and one case each involving APK fraud and crypto trading impersonation.
The suspects were arrested from Telangana, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
Police said trading fraud accounted for the highest financial loss, with victims losing Rs 11.75 crore across 25 cases. Overall, 38 major cybercrime cases involved losses of Rs 13.87 crore, of which Rs 98.89 lakh has been refunded to the victims.
Meanwhile, the Zonal Cyber Cells separately received 2,059 NCRP petitions, registered 298 FIRs, arrested six accused in five cases and helped victims recover Rs 27.09 lakh.
During cyber patrol operations, police identified and got removed 128 Facebook and Instagram profiles running paid advertisements promoting child exploitation content, multi-level marketing schemes and fake investment websites using referral links and deepfake videos.
Police urged citizens to remain cautious and advised them to report cyber fraud immediately by calling 1930 or filing a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
