Hyderabad: Cybercrooks dupe a private employee of Rs 1.10 lakh

The scammers offered the victim an increase in his credit card limit to ₹2 lakh and provided a link to proceed. They then sent a file named “PM KISAN YOJNAx3.APK” via WhatsApp, instructing the victim to install the app.

Hyderabad: A 29-year-old private employee from the city was duped to the tune of Rs 1.10 lakh, by cyber fraudsters claiming to be State Bank of India executives.

The scammers informed the victim about an offer to increase his credit card limit up to Rs 2 lakh and instructed him to follow a link to proceed.


Subsequently, the scammer sent a file named “PM KISAN YOJNAx3.APK” through WhatsApp, asking the victim to install the app.

“Believing the offer to be genuine, the victim installed the app. As soon as the app was installed, the victim’s phone was completely hacked, and he began receiving text messages from his bank indicating that money was being transferred with OTPs one by one,” said a cybercrime official.

In this manner, a total of Rs 1.1 lakh was debited from the victim’s SBI credit card. Following the incident, the victim contacted customer care and had his credit card blocked was blocked.

A formal police complaint was also lodged.
