Hyderabad deploys 20,000 personnel for final Ganesh immersion procession

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the final Ganesh idol immersion procession scheduled to be held on Friday, deploying nearly 20,000 personnel, central forces and advanced surveillance systems to ensure the event passes off peacefully.

A total of 6,108 idols within Hyderabad city limits have been immersed so far, while 2,161 idols were immersed in the last 24 hours, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar said.

More than 10,000 CCTV cameras installed along the main procession routes have been integrated with the Telangana State Police Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills. In addition, 24 advanced drones and nearly 100 high-resolution cameras will monitor crowd density and facilitate automated idol counting.

Personnel equipped with high-powered binoculars and wireless communication sets have been positioned on rooftops along the routes. A joint control room at TGICCC and specialised control rooms at NTR Marg, People’s Plaza, Necklace Road and the Moghalpura Sports Complex will oversee security, relief and assistance operations.

Expert divers and rescue boats from the Indian Army and the Tourism Department have been stationed at major water bodies. Mobile and static generators, watchtowers, ambulances, fire tenders and dedicated mechanical teams have been deployed to respond to emergencies and vehicle breakdowns.

Approximately 20,000 personnel from the Law and Order, Traffic, Task Force, Special Branch, City Security Wing and CAR units of the Hyderabad Commissionerate will be deployed on the ground. Additionally, 42 platoons comprising 8,142 personnel drawn from other districts have been allocated across seven security zones, the Hyderabad CP said.

Four companies of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) will be deployed in Charminar, Golconda, Rajendranagar and Shamshabad, while two CRPF companies will be stationed in Khairatabad and Secunderabad. As many as 53 Bomb Detection (BD) teams will conduct security sweeps across the city, while officers of IG/DIG rank will oversee critical junctions, including Mozamjahi Market and Basheerbagh.

As part of measures to ensure the safety of women and young girls, 26 SHE Teams are functioning in three shifts. Since the beginning of the festival on September 14, the teams have apprehended 1,172 individuals, including 1,121 adults and 51 minors, for allegedly indecent behaviour at high-density locations such as Khairatabad and Balapur.

On the final immersion day, 139 Crime Control Scheme (CCS) personnel divided into five sectors and 25 specialised plainclothes teams will monitor crowd activity to prevent theft and harassment. Women in distress have been advised to contact Dial 112 or the SHE Teams WhatsApp number 9490616555.

Sajjanar said the police had taken all necessary measures to ensure that the Ganesh immersion procession concluded peacefully and smoothly. He appealed to citizens to maintain composure, exercise self-restraint and celebrate the festival in a spirit of harmony.

The Commissioner warned against vulgar behaviour, hate speech, inflammatory content and the spreading of rumours on social media, stating that strict action would be taken against any misconduct. He also urged citizens to follow traffic advisories and advised organisers to appoint experienced drivers, conduct route surveys and maintain hygiene and safety precautions during the distribution of prasadam.
