Hyderabad District Basketball Championship: Golconda Gladiators stay unbeaten with win over Charminar Chargers

Golconda Gladiators maintained their unbeaten run with a 39-26 victory over Charminar Chargers in the youth girls' category of the Hyderabad District Basketball Championship. Pavani starred with 18 points as the Gladiators sealed their place in the knockout stage

Hyderabad: Golconda Gladiators remained unbeaten after a 39-26 win against Charminar Chargers in the youth girls category of the Hyderabad district basketball championship at YMCA Secunderabad here on Saturday.

Gladiators started well with Pavani and Khushboo combining well to dominate the first quarter and led 14 – 2.

In the keenly-contested second quarter, Hadiya and Greeshmika with a three-pointer brought some semblance to Chargers scores and with tight defence kept Gladiators to just five points bridging the deficit to just 10 points as Golconda Gladiators led 19 – 10 at half-time.

After change of ends too Greeshmika converted a three-pointer and Sahasra scored through a fast break to reduce the deficit to just five points at 18 – 23, however Golconda Gladiators regrouped and Pavani scored seven consecutive points to increase their lead as Golconda Gladiators led 33 – 18 at end of third quarter.

In the last quarter Sahasra and Greeshmika tried hard for a comeback scoring eight points, but the lead was too big to recover and finally Gladiators won the match.

With 3 consecutive losses Charminar Chargers have not qualified for the knock-out phase.
