Officials seized five Amphotericin B injections from the accused
Hyderabad: Two doctors were among five persons nabbed by the Hyderabad Task Force on charges of illegally selling Amphotericin B injections used to treat fungal infections, particularly in Covid-19 patients, at Langar Houz here on Wednesday. Officials seized five injections from them.
While each vial would actually cost Rs 314, depending on the manufacturer, they sold it for Rs 50,000, without any valid documents. The arrested persons were Dr. Bachhu Ramacharan from Langar Houz, Dr.G.Sainath from Langar Houz, B.Suresh, a X-ray technician from Gajularamaram, G.Saivardhan Goud, an interior designer from Kukatpally and Srikanth, a lab technician from Medak district. The prime suspect and alleged drug supplier, Dr.Ch.Raviteja Chowdary, is absconding.
The Amphotericin B injection is being used to treat for black fungal infections. According to the police, the suspects were aware of the shortage of the injection and conspired to make money by illegally procuring the injections at low prices and selling the same at exorbitant prices.
“All the suspects are doctors and medical practitioners or working in the healthcare field in corporate hospitals. Using their credentials, they targeted people who are in need of the injections for their family members infected with Covid,” an official said, adding that following a tip-off, the Task Force nabbed the gang near PVNR Expressway in Langar Houz.
They were handed over to the Langar Houz police for further action.
