Hyderabad: Doctors at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospitals, LB Nagar have successfully treated a 24-year-old young woman from Hyderabad, who was suffering from post-trauma fungal infection, hospital in a statement on Wednesday, said.
The woman had suffered injuries in a road accident in October, 2021 and was admitted to Aware Gleneagles Global Hospitals. Developing Mucor (fungal) infection as a post-trauma side-effect was rare and a serious complication, doctors said. The caregivers took-up debridement on the injury to clean it better and administered anti-fungal treatment.
Dr. Kalyan Chakravarthy, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital said, “The patient was admitted with a high degree of contamination due to dirt and dust, which could at times result in amputation.
We performed multiple stages of debridement, which involves removal of damaged tissues, along with administering specific high-powered drugs. Resurfacing of wound and rehabilitation happened over three months, and after a prolonged care, the victim has recovered, and is ready to return to her daily routine.”
