Hyderabad: The Task Force (North) team along with the local police nabbed seven persons on charges of drug peddling at James Street railway station in Secunderabad on Tuesday. Two drug consumers were also held. Officials seized 8 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 2.4 lakh.

The arrested persons are T Sanjay, the main drug peddler and rowdy sheeter from Marredpally, T Pavan, a rowdy sheeter and drug peddler from Marredpally, J Deepanshu Kumar from Yapral, D Kiran Kumar from Shamirpet, K Naveen Kumar from Shamirpet, M Krishna Rohith Kumar from Alwal and M Joel Vanshika from Balaji Nagar.

The drug consumers are T Harshavardhan from Neredmet and D Dikshit Sai Kumar from Tukaramgate. The absconding suspect is Subba Rao, the main drug supplier from Araku in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, Sanjay and Pavan are cousins and rowdy sheeters from Marredpally and earlier involved in criminal cases. There is one Non-Bailable Warrant pending against Pavan. Sanjay planned to procure marijuana from known sources in Araku and sell it to consumers in Hyderabad at a higher rate and make money.

“Sanjay shared his plan with Pavan and other suspects, who agreed to support him by receiving some amount as commission for each drug peddling consignment,” said a police official.

As per their plan, the gang bought marijuana from Andhra Pradesh and smuggled it into Hyderabad and sold it to consumers, mostly youngsters and students at a higher rate. Following a tip-off, the gang was busted and nabbed. The contraband substance was seized.
