Hyderabad: A man attacked his wife and mother-in-law in an inebriated condition at their house in Janapriya Nagar in Miyapur on Monday.

Mahesh, a cab driver, had a love marriage about two years ago and the couple has a one-year-old daughter. Mahesh, who is addicted to alcohol, often picked up fights with his wife over trivial matters.

Police said unable to bear Mahesh’s harassment, his wife Sridevi left the house and went to stay at her parents’ home with the child. On Monday, Mahesh called Sridevi asking her to come home to attend a birthday party at his brother’s house.

In this process, another fight broke out between the couple, following which Mahesh, who allegedly was drunk and furious, attacked Sridevi with a vegetable knife. He also attacked his mother Laxmi, who tried to save Sridevi.

The Miyapur police have registered a case and are investigating.
