Hyderabad: Two women in their 50s who allegedly were impersonating as officials from the food safety department and resorting to extortion at hotels and restaurants were caught and handed over to the Pet Basheerabad police.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Additional Commissioner (Health), Pankaja in a statement said the food safety wing of GHMC recently received complaints that two women – Boggula Sunitha and Neeli Vijayalakshmi – were inspecting and extorting money from various hotels and restaurants while claiming to be food safety and human rights officials.
The food safety officials on Monday acted on information that the two fake food inspectors were visiting restaurants in Alwal and Qutbullahpur, and alerted all the eateries located in this area. When the duo visited Gismat Jail Mandi Restaurant at Suchitra X Road, the managers there identified and caught them. They were subsequently handed over to Pet Basheerabad police.
