Hyderabad: If you are an ardent fan of films, you must have come across the recent screenings of an independent film called ‘Sheesh Mahal’ – which was shot in the year 2013. While many call it a film that brings the lost Hyderabad back on-screen, many are also awed by the different style of storytelling and treatment used in the film.
Shot by passionate Hyderabadi filmmakers – Camp Sasi and Rohit Penumatsa, the film ‘Sheesh Mahal’ just marked the beginning for the duo. Now, the duo who garnered a set of cult fans for their kind of films, aim to bring an OTT platform for alternative cinema. Quiz them about their style of filming, and Sasi shares, “We are basically addicted to the process of filmmaking.
We do not have any kind of fixed scripts for our shots. Moreover, we try to cast people who more or less have done what is required of the role in real life. Like, we cast a journalist friend when we needed an interviewer in the shot. It becomes easy for them and also looks more natural than having actors enact something they don’t know about.” Sasi and Rohit also mention that they believe in making the process of filmmaking more enjoyable than worrying about the end product. “If the process of shooting is smooth, the end product will definitely be good too,” Rohit points out.
The duo, in their quest for a journalist for a role in ‘Sheesh Mahal’, had cast Rahul Ramakrishna who was also a working journalist back then. “He was Rohit’s friend from long ago. And we thought he would be the best fit for our requirement of a journalist who is interested in filmmaking – and he is both,” Sasi shares. ‘Sheesh Mahal’ also had popular cinematographer Gnanashekhar VS working with the duo.
The screenings of ‘Sheesh Mahal’ at Ramanaidu Studio Preview Theatre received a very positive response from the audience. For further view of their films, the duo plan to turn their website www.avanticinema.com http://www.avanticinema.com – which currently uses pay per view for their content – into a subscription channel for all kinds of independent content.
“We have over 2,500 audiences who regularly view our content on our website. However, with the subscription model, we aim to reach over 10,000 audiences across the States,” Sasi shares optimistically.
