Hyderabad: A major fire broke out in a footwear shop and textile shop near the Koti Medical College here on Monday morning. No casualties were reported.
Officials suspect a short circuit could have led to the fire. Local residents noticed the fire and thick smoke emerging from the closed footwear shop on the roadside around 6 am, after which they alerted the fire department and police immediately, by which time the fire spread to the adjacent textile shop as well.
“It is a market place and the shops were full of rubber, clothes and other inflammable material. There was nobody present inside at the time of mishap,” said an official, adding that a short circuit from a transformer is suspected to be the cause of the fire.
Two fire engines with the help of fire personnel fought the fire and doused it. Officials said the cost of the property damaged was yet to be estimated. The Sultan Bazaar police are investigating.
