Hyderabad: Five persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a meticulously planned residential robbery in Jubilee Hills earlier this month. Three key suspects, including the alleged mastermind, remain absconding.
The five arrested persons are Ramesh Bahadur Chand, Janak Kumar Bikram Shahi, Lalit Bahadur Chand, Madan Khatri and Bohara Susil.
The absconding persons are Jeevan alias Jiban Bahadur Chand, Bhuvan alias Bhupender Shahi and Debi Kadel alias Bimla, who are suspected to have masterminded the operation and directed others in executing the crime.
On February 5, a Nepali gang allegedly targeted a house in Nandagiri Hills during the absence of the owners.
Officials said a domestic help employed at the residence facilitated the entry of two associates, allegedly drugged the watchmen and the cook, and enabled the theft of gold and diamond jewellery worth about Rs 1.3 crore.
Police said the gang had conspired to target affluent households by planting one member as a domestic help to gather information on valuables and security arrangements before committing the theft.
Stolen jewellery, mobile phones and motorcycles were recovered from them.
Police said the gang later dispersed to different locations and sought financial and logistical support to facilitate their escape to Nepal.
Police said efforts are on to nab the remaining absconding persons.
