Hyderabad: FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) in collaboration with KIMS Kondapur organised a Cancer Awareness Walk from Botanical Gardens to KIMS Kondapur on Wednesday to mark the month-long breast cancer awareness month of October.

Nearly 100 members of FLO along with their family members participated in a 5K walk holding placards and creating awareness about cancer, early detection etc.

Speaking on the occasion, Priya Gazdar, Chairperson of FLO said “As the incidence of cancer is increasing rapidly, it is important to step up cancer literacy and knowledge among the population. Awareness and early detection are the only way forward”.

The walk concluded at KIMS Kondapur, where Torn Curtains Theatre Group, one of the oldest theatre groups in Hyderabad led by Mala Pasha, performed a play, ‘Half Cup Full’ on cancer awareness. The play was about Breast Cancer Awareness, Breast Cancer Support Group and the inspiring journey of hope and determination.

Dr Shilpi Reddy of KIMS Hospital said breast cancer is assumed to be a disease of older women but it is not so and the average age of people who are suffering from breast cancer is 35 years.
