Hyderabad: A foreign returnee from Hyderabad with a travel history has tested positive for the new Covid strain (B 117) of United Kingdom on Thursday. The samples of the international traveller were sent to Hyderabad-based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) for genomic analysis.

Overall, five samples of individuals with a history of international travel had tested positive for the new strain of SARS-CoV-2 at CCMB out of which one individual was from Hyderabad while the remaining four were from Andhra Pradesh, senior health officials said.

Immediately after the positive results, the district surveillance teams have isolated the Covid positive individual and are also in the process of identifying close contacts. On Thursday, the Health Ministry said the number of individuals who have tested positive for the new strain has risen to 165 in the country.
