Hyderabad: Four-year-old boy drowns in uncovered sump at Hafeezpet

A four-year-old boy accidentally drowned in an uncovered sump while playing near his home in Hafeezpet, Miyapur. The child’s body was discovered by his parents and rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead. Police have begun an investigation.

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a four-year-old boy accidentally drowned in a water filled sump at Hafeezpet in Miyapur on Saturday.

Police said Abhi, the toddler was playing near the sump when he slipped and fell inside. The boy was staying with his parents Srinu and Leela, both daily wage workers at a rented house at Marthanda Nagar in Hafeezpet.


According to the police, the child was playing alone outside the house when his family members were inside. While playing, he wandered and accidentally fell into the water sump, which was left uncovered.
Abhi’s parents who realised he was missing, began looking for him frantically and later found the lifeless child in the water sump. The toddler was rushed to a nearby hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.

The Miyapur Police are investigating.
