Hyderabad: Ganesh idol immersion begins, GHMC readies 74 immersion ponds

Immersion of Ganesh idols began in Hyderabad on Friday, marking the third day of festivities. The GHMC set up 74 artificial ponds and identified 20 major lakes, deploying staff, cranes and sanitation teams to manage the immersion smoothly

Hyderabad: On the third day of Lord Ganesha festivities, immersion of idols began at different water bodies in and around the city on Friday. Several devotees carried idols installed at their homes to the nearest water bodies, while some pandal organisers also joined the immersion.

The immersion is usually held on the third day after idol installation and later on the fifth, seventh, ninth, and finally on the 10th and 11th day. This year, the main Ganesh idol immersion will take place on September 6.

The GHMC has identified 74 artificial ponds for the immersion and deployed personnel and machinery, including sanitation staff and cranes, working in three shifts to ensure smooth operations. In addition, the GHMC identified 20 major lakes, including Hussain Sagar, Saroor Nagar Lake, IDL Lake, Safilguda Lake, and Sunnam Lake, for the immersion.

Temporary Portable Water Tanks:
Exhibition Grounds, AS Rao Nagar, Secretariat Nagar, Officers Colony Welfare Association Grounds, MRO Office, Hayatnagar Cricket Ground near Swimming Pool, Sushma Theatre, Vanasthalipuram Government College Ground, behind Municipal Office, Shivalayam Ground, Riyasatnagar, Laxmaneshwar Playground, Jangammet, Ram Leela Ground, Chintal Basti, opposite SBA Garden, 100 Feet Road, Nampally Exhibition Ground-2, and Ameerpet Playground.

Temporary Excavation Ponds:
Devender Nagar Road, HUDA Bharati Nagar Park, ZP Road, Hastinapuram, NTR Nagar Vegetable Market, Friends Colony Shuttle Court, SBH Colony, Saidabad, Batukamma Bavi, Kandikal Gate, Gowlipura, Vaishali Nagar, IS Sadan, Narsabaikunta, Mailardevpally, Sanjeevini Hills, near Musi River, and Uppal.

Permanent Baby Ponds:

LB Nagar Zone: Charlapally Lake, Kapra Lake, Nalla Cheruvu, Nagole Lake, Mansoorabad Big Lake.
Charminar Zone: Pathi Kunta, Rajanna Bavi.
Khairatabad Zone: Neknampur, Necklace Road, Durgam Cheruvu, Malkam Cheruvu, Nallagandla Cheruvu, Gopi Cheruvu.
Serilingampally Zone: Gangaram Cheruvu, Kaidamma Kunta, Gurunatham Cheruvu, Raya Samudram.
Kukatpally Zone: Mulkatva Cheruvu, IDL Baby Pond, Balaji Nagar, Moosapet, Boyin Cheruvu Baby Pond, Pragati Nagar Baby Pond, Alwyn Colony, Hafeezpet, Vennela Gadda Cheruvu, Lingam Cheruvu, Suraram (near Maisamma Temple), Kotha Cheruvu, Alwal Temple.
Secunderabad Zone: Sanjeevaiah Park, Safilguda, Banda Cheruvu.
