Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters targeted a government employee and duped him of nearly Rs 4 lakh in a bank fraud, allegedly by sending a malicious APK file.

The 59-year-old complainant lost around Rs 3.92 lakh after installing a malicious APK file sent by a fraudster posing as a relationship manager from a private bank.

According to available information, the caller claimed there was an error in the victim’s address and requested personal details. Once the APK was activated, the amount was fraudulently debited from the victim’s account.

Cybercrime authorities have urged citizens not to share personal data or install unknown apps sent via messages. “Banks never send APK files or request KYC updates through third-party links,” officials warned.

Victims can report cyber fraud at cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930. In emergencies, contact 8712665171.
