Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have busted an interstate drug racket being operated from Berhampur to Hyderabad and arrested two drug peddlers on Wednesday. Officials seized about 10.6 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 5.3 lakh from them.
The arrested persons are Ananta Rait and Suresh Badaraita, both agricultural workers turned drug peddlers from Gajapati district in Odisha. The absconding person is Kiran, also from Odisha.
The suspects were approached by Kiran with an offer to sell drugs. He promised good commission on smuggling drugs from Odisha to Hyderabad. Ananta and Suresh accepted the offer as they were in need of money.
According to the police, as per Kiran’s instructions, Ananta and Suresh collected marijuana from him and reached Berhampur railway station on Tuesday. From there, they reached Secunderabad railway station in Konark Express with the drugs concealed in the luggage.
“They had boarded the train without a ticket and concealed the drugs in bags kept under the lower berths. During the journey the Train Ticket Examiner issued them a ticket with fine for ticketless travel,” said a police official.
On Wednesday, they reached the Secunderabad railway station and were waiting on the platform for Kiran’s phone call and further instructions. It was when that the duo was detained by the police personnel and they confessed to drug peddling.
